Out & Proud in the Workplace

Matthew Borst

(He, Him) is 30

Throughout his career, Matthew has mentored and provided opportunities for LGBTQ colleagues across the entertainment industry. He feels fortunate to have had excellent gay role models in his life. These role models inspired him to mentor and foster the professional and personal development of his LGBTQ peers and alumni, helping them navigate the sometimes complex nature of being out and proud in the workplace. He prides himself on being an out gay professional.

Matthew started his career at ICM Partners, a top-tier talent agency in Los Angeles, where he gained an understanding of the vast entertainment landscape. From there, he moved to NYC to work in brand strategy and marketing for A+E Networks. During his time at the network, he worked across the A+E, Lifetime, and History channels, producing 360 marketing campaigns for some of TV’s biggest shows, including Lifetime’s Emmy-winning Project Runway.

From there, he became the Director of Social Media and Integrated Marketing at Endemol Shine North America, the world’s largest global production company with a portfolio of 50+ television and digital series produced annually and a growing library of IP. During his time at Endemol Shine, he was selected to join the company’s international board to identify business development opportunities across territories.

Now a Senior Director of Digital Strategy & Production for MTV, VH1 and Logo, Matthew oversees the company’s music and pro-social events and specials, including the VMAs, Movie & TV Awards, Trailblazer Awards, and more. Matthew volunteers his time with the UCLA Alumni Association and Viacom’s UP Mentors, giving advice, internships and work opportunities to 10-20 students annually. Matthew is an active voting member of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
