RICHARD SEIGLER-CARTER

MANAGING DIRECTOR, LEVERAGED

Class of 2022 BEQ Pride LGBTQ Leader Under 40
(He, Him) is 35

What do you believe is your responsibility to this moment in history?

The notion of the American educational haves and have nots is often pernicious and masked as a lack of resources, rather than a lack of leadership, support and rigor. I intend to demonstrate that students across the country can and will be successful in any school model with concrete systems, processes and functions that place a student’s academic excellence and their social-emotional needs first. I view it as my personal responsibility to not only ensure the conditions for excellence and success are in place, but also to support the sector as a whole in intentional recruiting, training and the ongoing development of future leaders of color.

Before joining LeveragED in 2018, Richard served as Managing Director of Schools at Success Academy Charter Schools, managing a portfolio of 13 elementary and middle schools which ranked collectively in the top 3% in English Language Arts and top 1% in Math and Science in the state of New York. In addition to managing schools, he also designed and led the organization’s growing teacher onboarding and training program, training over 700 new teachers. Richard had many roles at Success Academy, including teacher, Dean of Students, Blue Ribbon-awarded principal and Director of Culture. Richard has also worked as a professional dancer and as an associate at CT3 Education, providing professional development at schools across the country. Richard received his B.S. from SUNY College at Old Westbury and M.B.A. from the University of Phoenix.  He also holds an Ed.D. in educational leadership and management from Capella University.
