Annual awards will be given beginning 2017 in the following areas:

BEQ Pride Trailblazer Award – small or medium LGBTQ business enterprise that has blazed new trails in innovation, partnership, philanthropy, or supplier diversity.

BEQ Pride LGBTQ Business Equality Excellence Award – CHANGING for 2019

This is an annual list of companies devoted to diversity in the workplace, marketplace, supply chain and philanthropy. These organizations foster economic stability in the LGBTQ community through the fair treatment and inclusion of LGBTQ employees, suppliers, consumers, and partners in business. We originally created the Business Equality Excellence Award to establish a pool of likely candidates for our Annual Corporate Eminence Award. Our goal was quite simple, curate a list of the major brands and employers who are committed to the economic empowerment of all diverse communities while highlighting their commitment to the LGBTQ business community. The Business Equality Excellence program allows us to bring attention to the need to align excellence in the workplace (based on the HRC’s Corporate Equality Index), marketplace (media and market presence showing LGBTQ engagement), supply chain (corporate partnership with NGLCC) and philanthropy (engaging LGBTQ issues and charitable causes through monetary support). The program is all about clearly identifying the business community and industry leaders engaged in the struggle for full equality for the LGBTQ community through business and economic inclusion.

Hundreds of companies have been added to the Business Equality Excellence ranks over the years and our list has become a standard for demonstrating a commitment to the LGBTQ business community. With the recent inclusion of LGBTBE® and Supplier Diversity at both the Billion Dollar Roundtable and Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index, respectively, we’ve decided to adjust the criteria for our program. More to come on this recognition in June 2019. Stay tuned!

BEQ Pride 50 LGBTQ Legacy Leaders over 50NEW for 2019

This is a search for those among us who have demonstrated leadership, are building a legacy of excellence in their chosen field and were born during or prior to the Stonewall Riots in June 1969. The dictionary defines “legacy” as a gift or a bequest, that is handed down, endowed or conveyed from one person to another. It is something descendible one comes into possession of that is transmitted, inherited or received from a predecessor. In many ways, the LGBTQ community has always enjoyed a rich legacy of courageous, brilliant and creative people that have both quietly and not-so-quietly built the foundation of the community and its culture.

Many of these people are celebrated in books, movies, history lessons or even commemorated on stamps. We regularly celebrate their accomplishments during LGBT History Month or Pride. These posthumous celebrations are wonderful, but BEQ Pride would like to celebrate the legacy that our leaders are building now—while we can show them our appreciation for their hard work and how we intend to build on that foundation. It’s all about the legacy. Their hard work and perseverance are a legacy, a gift or a bequest to us all.  Nominations for our this list will be open from April 1 – May 1, 2019. Finalists will be notified by May 17, 2019. Stay tuned and start nominating candidates in April here!
