Marsha P. Johnson (1945-1992), was an American gay liberation activist
and self-identified drag queen. Known as an outspoken advocate for
gay rights, Johnson was one of the prominent figures in the Stonewall
uprising of 1969. During the summer of 2021, a group of artists and
activists created and installed a tribute to Johnson in New York City’s
Christopher Park across from the Stonewall Inn on what would have
been Johnson’s 76th birthday. Read more.
