ALEX SHELDON

HEAD OF SOCIAL IMPACT & COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS, DAYLIGHT

Class of 2022 BEQ Pride LGBTQ Leader Under 40
(They, Them) is 35

What do you believe is your responsibility to this moment in history?

I believe that my responsibility to this moment is to promote financial health among LGBTQ people by queering banking for the better. I’ve come to understand that most of the challenges facing the LGBTQ community – from family rejection to healthcare access to violence – can be linked to economic inequities. And if nearly every issue drives economic disparities or is driven by economic exclusion, then we must remove barriers to financial health in order for our beloved queer community to truly thrive.

Alex Sheldon recently joined the team at Daylight where they are Head of Social Impact & Community Partnerships. Alex and the Daylight team are working to close the LGBTQ wealth gap by building an LGBTQ-affirming banking platform and financial products. Alex is thrilled to be utilizing their background in non-profit leadership and LGBTQ movement capacity to maximize Daylight’s social impact and build an LGBTQ-inclusive financial ecosystem.

Prior to joining Daylight, Alex served as the Deputy Director of the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) at the Clinton Foundation, where they helped launch the Action Network on Inclusive Economic Recovery in the U.S. They also teach Advanced LGBTQ Policy at New York University. In the next decade, Alex hopes the LGBTQ community achieves equitable access to wealth-building opportunities.
