What do you believe is your responsibility to this moment in history?

I believe my responsibility in this moment in history is to teach through action. As someone who decided to chase my dream to be a designer and chose to live life in a way that fuels my soul, I want to show the younger generation and my peers that they can dream big and go after it. You owe it to yourself to at least try.

Brandon Murphy is a long-time contributor to the LGBTQ+ designer, business and activist communities. He is passionate about building equity within the LGBTQ+ community. For Brandon, building equity means setting an example, sharing his experiences and providing insight for peers and the younger generation. Brandon hopes to inspire them to always bet on themselves.

Brandon has embarked on the ambitious goal of building B|M|C, a vertically integrated tailoring and ready-to-wear brand that will merge luxury and accessibility in fashion. Most recently, Colin Kaepernick can be seen wearing B|M|C in his new Netflix series “Colin in Black & White” directed by Ava DuVernay. Actor Tyler Lepley can be seen wearing B|M|C in his new Amazon Prime series “Harlem” created by Tracy Oliver. Brandon partnered with Black Fashion Fair to launch an exclusive black leather penny loafer adorned with three custom silver laser branded coins fixed in three separate hand-carved slots, all made in Portugal.

In addition to being an entrepreneur, Brandon is an activist. On June 4, 2020, he coordinated a peaceful demonstration of more than 1,000 men and boys of all ages to march through Harlem and the Upper Eastside in suits on the day of George Floyd’s memorial to honor his life and to create a sense of unity between the men in his community. Brandon sits on the annual Juneteenth planning committee board where he assisted in coordinating a 5K run and festival in Harlem. His hopes for the LGBTQ+/SGL community for the next decade are to continue to be bold, speak up for themselves and fight for equality.
