LGBTQ Business Equality Excellence

Announcing Business Equality Excellence for 2022-23: Congratulations to the 245 Honorees

By BEQ Pride Editorial Team

The Business Equality Network announces our sixth annual LGBTQ Business Equality Excellence Award Recipients for 2022-23. The Business Equality Network and the BEQ Pride magazine editorial team are committed to the success of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer plus (LGBTQ+) business community.  We emphasize and acknowledge support for organizations and major employers that have made diverse and inclusive workplaces, multicultural engagement and supply chain diversity not just a policy but a practice.

Once a year, we honor organizations fostering economic stability in the LGBTQ+ community through the fair treatment and inclusion of LGBTQ+ employees, suppliers, consumers and partners in business. These organizations demonstrate the policies and practices of Business Equality Excellence.

The Business Equality Excellence program allows us to bring attention to the need to align excellence in the workplace (based on the HRC’s Corporate Equality Index), marketplace (media and market presence showing LGBTQ+ engagement), supply chain (corporate partnership with NGLCC and membership in the Billion Dollar Roundtable) and philanthropy (engaging LGBTQ+ issues and charitable causes through monetary support). In addition, the program identifies the business community and industry leaders who have self-identified in full support of LGBTQ+ equality through their active business and economic inclusion efforts.

Business Equality Excellence is a journey we agree to take together. The 245 organizations and major employers have initiated their part of a social contract of the highest order—all people are created equal. Operating from this premise requires active allyship and inclusion in business. The Business Equality Network, BEQ Pride magazine and BusinessEqualityMagazine.com are devoted to amplifying the 245 ways these organizations demonstrate allyship and inclusion in business.

THE MAP
Of the 245 Business Equality Excellence Honorees, 97 are in the Northeast, 46 are in the South, 62 are in the Midwest and 40 are in the West.

The 245 major corporations, employers and sports organizations are active participants in the economic prosperity of the communities in which they operate—our communities. Moreover, their increased visible, vocal and financial commitment to equality in business (workforce, workplace, marketplace and supply chain) contributes to the local, national and global economic climate. But, it does not end there. As our journey to full LGBTQ+ equality and collective prosperity continues, we can make a difference.

Our voices matter.

The economic disparities and systemic disenfranchisement faced by many in the LGBTQ+ community and beyond can impact a business’s bottom line. Our engine of economic prosperity (job creation, investment, innovation, etc.) is in danger of running out of fuel unless we take action.

Three simple actions

Buy from and support the businesses that support your values. Your spending decisions speak for you. Brands make a significant investment to influence your decision to spend with them. Your choice in products and services (e.g., mortgage, automobile, insurance, food, entertainment, clothing or healthcare) are your choice. Your money speaks louder than words, so make each dollar count.

Speak up about the issues that matter to you and your family. Contact the leaders and representatives of these organizations with your concerns. As a loyal customer, employee, investor or stakeholder, you can take time to write a letter (or an email), call or connect on social media to voice concerns and issues. Hold them accountable.

Show up and be seen. Your physical presence can make a difference. Public events, resources and opportunities are available for you. Each organization engages with the community for public events as sponsors, direct providers or participants. To show up means to engage by expressing your appreciation of their sponsorship, sign up for the programs provided by the organization and bring your family and friends to participate in community activities.
