BEQ Pride Celebrates Black History Month: Janelle Monáe

Janelle Monáe (Kansas City, KS) is a singer and actor. Monáe came out as pansexual in 2018 with the release of her third album, Dirty Computer. In the accompanying visual album, Monáe is seen in a primary romantic relationship with actress Tessa Thompson. Previously, Monáe had stated that she only dates androids and made other comments obliquely referring to the fact that she is queer. Also an actress, Monáe has appeared in films such as Hidden Figures and Moonlight. She is both a Screen Actors Guild Award winner and a multi-Grammy nominee.
