BEQ Pride Celebrates Black History Month: Phillipe Cunningham

Phillipe Cunningham (Streator, IL) was one of the first openly transgender men elected to public office anywhere in the United States. Originally from Illinois, Cunningham went to college at DePaul University and became a special education teacher in Chicago Public Schools. His move to Minneapolis resulted in his mayoral appointee to the Youth Violence Prevention Executive Committee, and his later role as a senior policy aide to Mayor Betsy Hodges.
